Managing editor Jimmy Soni, 29, left the Huffington Post in May to focus on launching the company’s website in India. Then, Soni left the company a month later to focus on writing a mathematics book. So what really happened? Well according to employees of the media site, Soni was under investigation by AOL, the parent company, and HuffPost attorneys for sexual harassment.
According to the investigation and staffers of Huffington, Soni would use his management of the Editorial Fellows program (entry staffers for the site) as a source of never-ending potential romantic partners. An editor pointed out that Soni’s selections for the program had a disproportionate number of Caucasian, blonde women to which Soni responded, “Yeah, I’m using it to find myself a wife.”
Allegedly, Soni aggressively pursued many female fellows via Facebook and text message during, before, and after work. Two fellows who did not engage with Soni reported to upper management that they felt if they did not engage in flirtatious behavior, then there would be no possibility of a full-time position.
Within weeks of a formal probe, Soni had exited the company permanently under the guise of this math book.
